About the role
Our client, a well‑established civil engineering consultancy, is seeking a Transport Planner to join their Cambridge office. You will work on a variety of public and private sector projects, delivering practical transport solutions from feasibility through to detailed design.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and deliver small to medium transport planning projects, controlling budget and schedule.
- Prepare, review and occasionally approve technical reports such as Transport Statements, Technical Notes, Travel Plans and Access Appraisals.
- Produce detailed Transport Assessments and Modelling Notes.
- Undertake access appraisals, design access options and review planning drawing requirements.
- Apply transport policy, design guidance and local planning regulations to schemes.
- Conduct independent site visits and provide professional opinions.
- Participate in project team meetings, client consultations, Local Highway Authority and public consultation sessions.
- Identify mitigation measures for highway capacity and active travel issues.
- Liaise with clients, planners, architects and highway officers.
- Prepare fee proposals and support business development activities.
- Provide guidance to junior team members and ensure compliance with company QMS.
Required profile
- Degree‑level qualification in transport planning, civil engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of transport policy, design guidance and planning regulations.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience preparing technical transport reports and conducting site visits.
