Transport Planner

About the role

Our client, a well‑established civil engineering consultancy, is seeking a Transport Planner to join their Cambridge office. You will work on a variety of public and private sector projects, delivering practical transport solutions from feasibility through to detailed design.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and deliver small to medium transport planning projects, controlling budget and schedule.
• Prepare, review and occasionally approve technical reports such as Transport Statements, Technical Notes, Travel Plans and Access Appraisals.
• Produce detailed Transport Assessments and Modelling Notes.
• Undertake access appraisals, design access options and review planning drawing requirements.
• Apply transport policy, design guidance and local planning regulations to schemes.
• Conduct independent site visits and provide professional opinions.
• Participate in project team meetings, client consultations, Local Highway Authority and public consultation sessions.
• Identify mitigation measures for highway capacity and active travel issues.
• Liaise with clients, planners, architects and highway officers.
• Prepare fee proposals and support business development activities.
• Provide guidance to junior team members and ensure compliance with company QMS.

Required profile

• Degree‑level qualification in transport planning, civil engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Strong understanding of transport policy, design guidance and planning regulations.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Experience preparing technical transport reports and conducting site visits.
