Tree Climber – Bat Survey Specialist

About the role

This short‑term position involves climbing trees and structures to assess bat roosts for an environmental consultancy project in Scotland. You will work on‑site for one week, supporting ecological surveys and providing data for compliance with wildlife legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Climb trees and structures to inspect cavities, cracks and roost features for bats.
• Conduct aerial inspections using climbing gear and endoscopes.
• Perform Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRAs) and evaluate bat roost potential.
• Support bat emergence, re‑entry and activity surveys, often at dawn or dusk.
• Use bat detectors, infrared cameras, thermal imaging and endoscopes to identify bat presence.
• Record survey data, produce field notes and draft reports.
• Advise on ecological constraints, mitigation measures and wildlife legislation compliance.

Required profile

• Valid Bat Licences (Level 1 & 2).
• Proven experience in tree climbing and aerial rescue.
• Previous experience in bat roost assessment or similar ecological work.
• Driving licence and access to a personal vehicle.
