Underwriting & Governance Analyst – Team Lead

About the role

Join Markel’s Underwriting Enablement Team as a lead analyst, shaping governance and technical underwriting across the business. Reporting to the Underwriting Director, you will ensure robust controls, regulatory compliance and operational excellence while developing a newly formed team.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain underwriting governance standards and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Review and approve non‑standard endorsements and support underwriting controls.
• Monitor adherence to underwriting guidelines, analyse data and produce governance reports.
• Lead, coach and develop the newly created Underwriting Enablement Team.
• Build processes, structures and operating models for the function.

Required profile

• Significant experience in underwriting, technical broking or insurance governance.
• Strong technical underwriting knowledge and experience with delegated authorities.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience coaching, mentoring or leading teams.
• ACII qualification or progression towards it is advantageous.
