VAT Bookkeeper

About the role

We are a well‑established independent accountancy practice seeking an experienced VAT Bookkeeper. You will join a friendly team that values accuracy and client service, handling day‑to‑day bookkeeping and VAT responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Process payments, invoices, income and receipts and record them in Xero.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns on a regular basis.
• Identify and record inconsistencies to support accountants in reconciling accounts.
• Assist Client Managers with the preparation of yearly accounts when required.
• Maintain accurate client records and ensure compliance with tax regulations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in bookkeeping for sole traders, with some exposure to partnerships or limited companies.
• Professional attitude and personable demeanour for client‑facing interactions.
• Ability to work independently while supporting the wider accounting team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero accounting software.
• Familiarity with SAGE and CCH (useful but not essential).
