VMU Manager – Vehicle Maintenance Operations

About the role

Join the UK's largest Mercedes‑Benz commercial vehicle dealership as a VMU Manager. You will lead a workshop team, ensuring high‑quality service for fleet customers while fostering a positive, motivating work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and control workforce resources to meet fleet demand.
• Manage labour costs and third‑party usage.
• Ensure compliance with safety audits and contractor codes of practice.
• Oversee facility planning, bay allocation, tool and equipment optimisation.
• Prepare investment calculations for workshops, facilities and HR.
• Review and adjust workshop service pricing in line with market conditions.
• Measure and report daily workshop performance, including retail sales, warranty and internal contracts.
• Handle WIP management, cash control, recruitment, induction, coaching and retention of staff.
• Set target agreements with employees and monitor achievement.

Required profile

• Level 3 NVQ, City & Guilds or IMI qualification in Vehicle Repair and Maintenance.
• Previous experience in a similar managerial role within the automotive workshop environment.
• Resilient with strong coping skills.
• Excellent communication, able to inspire and motivate a team.
• Highly motivated to achieve personal and team success.
