Volunteer Panel Member for Disciplinary and Grievance Panel

About the role

The Disciplinary and Grievance Panel (D&G Panel) is an independent body that supports British Rowing in handling grievance and disciplinary matters fairly and in line with regulations. Membership is voluntary, with reasonable expenses reimbursed.

Key responsibilities

• Resolve grievances, appeals and other disciplinary matters referred by regions, clubs or individuals.
• Act as the Appeals Board for non‑selection for International or Olympic representation.
• Make recommendations to the Board via the CEO to ensure equitable handling of cases.
• Provide guidance to British Rowing members, clubs, competitions and regions on regulations when required.

Required profile

• Minimum five years’ experience in judicial matters (e.g., barrister, lawyer, solicitor, Justice of the Peace).
• Experience in disciplinary or grievance work is advantageous.
• Willingness to attend panel meetings twice a year (online) and occasional one‑day hearings in London or regionally.
• Commitment to high standards, good practice guidelines and compliance with British Rowing requirements.
