Welfare Officer (Medical & Pastoral) – Secondary School

About the role

The school is looking for a dedicated Welfare Officer to oversee medical and pastoral care for its students. This full‑time, temporary position starts in September 2026 and is based on the Barnet campus. You will work closely with teachers, nurses and external health professionals to ensure a safe and supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first‑aid treatment and immediate medical support to students and staff.
• Assess and respond to minor injuries, illnesses and medical incidents following school protocols.
• Maintain accurate medical and welfare records in line with safeguarding and GDPR requirements.
• Administer prescribed medication and support pupils with chronic conditions such as asthma, epilepsy, allergies or diabetes.
• Act as the primary contact for medical and welfare concerns throughout the school day.
• Liaise with parents, carers, school nurses and external health professionals when needed.
• Support safeguarding referrals where health issues intersect with student welfare.
• Monitor attendance related to medical needs and assist with reintegration plans.
• Promote wellbeing, hygiene and healthy lifestyle awareness across the school community.

Required profile

• Calm, compassionate and medically aware individual.
• Degree or relevant experience working with young people in a secondary school setting.
• Valid First Aid qualification.
• Experience of supporting students with ongoing medical conditions is desirable.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies.
