Wing Structure Analysis Internship (12.5 months)

About the role

Join Airbus’s Wing Structural Analysis team in Filton for a 12.5‑month internship focused on static stress, fatigue and damage tolerance, and finite element modelling of aircraft wings. You will work alongside experienced engineers on both established aircraft such as the A320 and A350 and on future wing concepts.

Key responsibilities

• Solve structural analysis problems using static stress, F&DT and FEM methods, including extracting data from previous analyses and performing new FEM simulations.
• Produce calculations and documentation to justify structural performance and communicate results to mentors and senior engineers.
• Contribute to structural sizing, trade studies and wing modification processes, ensuring alignment across multidisciplinary teams.
• Define personal development goals, which may involve learning Java, Python or other optimisation techniques.

Required profile

• Undergraduate studying Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline, with a graduation date after the placement.
• Basic understanding of aircraft structural design principles and strong problem‑solving attitude.
• Willingness to propose new ideas and collaborate within diverse, multicultural teams.

Required skills

• Finite Element Model (FEM) analysis.
• Static stress analysis.
• Fatigue and damage tolerance (F&DT) analysis.
• Programming in Java or Python (beneficial).
