1:1 Learning Support Assistant – Complex Needs

About the role

We are seeking a patient and resilient individual to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 7 pupil with complex needs in a specialist SEND secondary school in Stockport. The role involves helping the pupil with autism and dyslexia to access the curriculum and feel safe and engaged.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one learning support throughout the school day (08:30‑15:30).
• Act as a scribe, repeat instructions and reinforce learning through structured repetition.
• Promote emotional regulation and ensure the pupil feels safe and happy.
• Collaborate closely with teachers and specialist staff to tailor support.
• Build a trusting relationship with the pupil and provide regular progress updates to parents/carers.

Required profile

• Patient, calm and nurturing, with the ability to be firm when needed.
• Resilient and consistent in supporting learning and behaviour.
• Strong communication skills for liaising with staff and families.
• Passionate about helping vulnerable pupils reach their potential.
• Experience in SEND support, autism support, residential care, youth work or mentoring is desirable.
