7.5T Customer Delivery Driver Technician

About the role

As a Technician Specialist, you will deliver products such as furniture, kitchen appliances, sound systems and TV sets to customers' homes as part of a 2-person delivery crew driving a 7.5-tonne vehicle. You will also coach and develop your delivery driver colleagues on home installations and customer service, acting as a role model for the service John Lewis is known for. The role is based at the Avonmouth delivery hub.

Key responsibilities

• Start each day at the delivery hub and drive a route, delivering large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds and mattresses
• Be an ambassador for the John Lewis brand, with customer service as your top priority
• Coach, develop and assess your delivery driver colleagues
• Help load the lorry with the day's deliveries alongside the warehouse team
• Treat customers' homes with respect and courtesy, and handle unexpected situations to find the best solution
• Install products efficiently and quickly, showing customers how they work once installed
• Keep up to date with new products and technologies and maintain a safe working environment

Required profile

• Age 18 or older
• Previous installation experience; installer accreditation is provided
• Manual C1 UK driving licence (maximum 6 points) and DCPC or Drivers Qualification Card by the first day, plus a tachograph card
• Previous experience driving a 7.5-tonne vehicle and in a customer-facing role
• Good verbal communication and a good understanding of technology
• Desirable: in-home delivery and installation of electrical and furniture products, white goods installation, electrical installations including integrated appliances and TV wall mounts, flat-pack assembly, and evidence of replacing domestic light fittings, accessories and cooking appliances

What we offer

• Pay of £35,730 expected starting rate, advertised range £32,500 to £44,500
• Schedule of 41 hours per week across 4 days on a 5-week rota, Monday to Saturday 06:00-17:00, with early starts, late finishes, evenings and weekends
• Evening premium of £3.25 per hour (18:00-22:00) and night premium of £4.25 per hour (22:00-06:00)
