Accountant – Financial Reporting & FP&A

About the role

The NLS Accountant will support financial reporting and planning for the National Laboratories & Science business unit. Working closely with Business and Group Finance teams, you will help improve reporting accuracy, insight and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Own weekly and monthly business performance reporting, providing accurate commentary and variance analysis.
• Manage overhead cost‑centre accounting, including journal posting, P&L review and balance‑sheet reconciliation.
• Coordinate the monthly balance‑sheet review process.
• Lead monthly cost‑modelling for GMG, delivering analytics on position, variances, risks and opportunities.
• Support cost owners with forecasts, efficiency identification and standardised models.
• Provide financial modelling for projects such as transitions, exits, change control and new business.
• Assist with annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting, handling inputs, processes and outputs.
• Perform ad‑hoc journal entries, reviews and business support as required.
• Contribute to priority NLS and Group Finance initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent).
• Experience in financial reporting, FP&A or business partnering.
• Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Excellent written communication and presentation abilities.
• Self‑starter with high attention to detail and organisational skills.

Required skills

• Advanced financial modelling.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (report building, analytics, pivot tables).
• Experience with cost accounting or project accounting.
• Familiarity with IFS, Business Objects and Tableau is preferred.
