Accounts Assistant – Retail Finance

About the role

We are looking for an Accounts Assistant to support the daily financial operations of a retail‑focused company. The role will ensure accurate record‑keeping, timely processing of payments and help the finance team maintain smooth month‑end close activities.

Key responsibilities

• Process accounts receivable transactions including payments, refunds, credit notes and cash allocations.
• Monitor debtor balances, follow up overdue items and assist with debt recovery.
• Reconcile AR, bank statements, balance‑sheet accounts and trade debtor ledgers.
• Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies and customer account queries.
• Liaise with sales sites and internal departments to address financial questions.
• Support month‑end close, balance‑sheet reconciliations and external audit requirements.
• Maintain the accuracy of both accounts receivable and accounts payable ledgers.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.

Required profile

• Good understanding of basic accounting principles.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational abilities.
• Effective communication skills for internal and external liaison.
• Proactive problem‑solving attitude.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
