Advanced Pharmacist – Emergency Department (1‑year Fixed Term)

About the role

The NHS Lothian Emergency Department Pharmacy team is seeking an Advanced Pharmacist to join a 1‑year secondment/fixed‑term contract. You will work at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, providing rapid, safe medicines management for acutely unwell patients alongside doctors, nurses and advanced practitioners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of service improvements within the Emergency Department.
• Support critical clinical decision‑making and help prevent medication errors.
• Optimise treatment plans for acutely unwell patients and contribute to lifesaving interventions.
• Provide expert pharmaceutical advice to multidisciplinary teams.
• Deliver staff training and development on medication safety and best practice.

Required profile

• Registered pharmacist with experience in acute or emergency care.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑impact environment.
• Strong commitment to clinical excellence and patient safety.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

• Clinical pharmacy expertise.
