AI Architect – Lead AI Systems for Patent Intelligence

About the role

As an AI Architect you will be the technical authority for the AI systems powering Protégé within PatentSight+. You will work across the full stack to ensure scalability, security and alignment with RELX Responsible AI standards while collaborating with engineering, product and data teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own the AI architecture vision for Protégé, ensuring coherence with product strategy and responsible AI principles.
• Design and implement agentic reasoning systems, retrieval/search architectures, and AI‑driven enrichment pipelines for large‑scale patent data.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies, maintain Architecture Decision Records, and guide technical feasibility with product management.
• Partner with security and platform teams to meet enterprise access control, data privacy and regulatory compliance.
• Lead AI risk assessments and communicate architectural decisions to senior leadership and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required profile

• Extensive software engineering experience, preferably in a senior AI/ML architecture role.
• Proven delivery of production LLM‑based systems, including RAG pipelines and multi‑step reasoning workflows.
• Strong knowledge of responsible AI principles and ability to assess AI risk and compliance.

Required skills

• Python programming for AI services.
• C# or equivalent compiled language for enterprise micro‑service integration.
• Vector databases and semantic search pipeline design.
• Model Context Protocol (MCP) and large language model integration.
• Databricks, Elasticsearch, and Kafka for large‑scale data platforms.
