Assistant Accountant – Group Finance (Hybrid)

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Assistant Accountant to join a leading UK construction group. Working closely with the Group Finance Manager and Treasury Director, you will support month‑end processes and help manage a £300m cash balance in a dynamic, multi‑entity environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly journals, including pre‑payments and accruals.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations and maintain the fixed‑asset register.
• Analyse head‑office costs and process inter‑company recharges.
• Raise monthly and quarterly sales invoices.
• Assist in the production of statutory accounts and respond to external audit queries.
• Support daily cash‑management activities, including cash forecasts, surplus investment and intra‑group loan administration.
• Produce daily cash reports for senior management and ensure accurate recording of all cash‑related transactions.
• Check bank interest calculations and monitor performance bonds.

Required profile

• AAT qualification or 3‑5 years of month‑end accounting experience.
• Proven experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar role.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organisational ability with a focus on meeting deadlines.
• Analytical and problem‑solving mindset with attention to detail.
