Assistant Curator – Visual Media and Archives

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Curator – Visual Media and Archives to join the Royal Air Force Museum in London on a full‑time permanent basis. Reporting to the Curator of Photographs, you will work within the Collections and Research team, supporting the care, documentation and promotion of our visual media and archive holdings across all museum sites.

Key responsibilities

• Document, catalogue and research items in the visual media and archive collections.
• Respond to information requests from museum staff, visiting researchers and external enquiries within agreed time‑frames.
• Assist in the acquisition, disposal and care of collection items in line with museum policies and sector best practice.
• Develop content for exhibitions and create material for public audiences.
• Supervise volunteers and contribute to data collection, reporting and presentations.
• Travel between the London site, Midlands sites and other locations as required.

Required profile

• High level knowledge of museum collection practice and administration, gained through employment or a relevant qualification.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Enthusiastic, positive approach when interacting with colleagues and visitors.
• Ability to apply standard museum practices to evaluate problems and make appropriate decisions.
