Assistant Ecologist – Environmental Consultancy

About the role

The Assistant Ecologist will support senior ecologists on a variety of habitat and protected‑species surveys across the UK. You will gain hands‑on experience in data collection, technical reporting and the delivery of environmental projects while receiving structured training and mentoring.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with field surveys of habitats and protected species.
• Collect, record and manage ecological data on site.
• Prepare technical reports and contribute to project documentation.
• Support project delivery through coordination with senior team members.
• Travel to survey locations, including occasional overnight stays.

Required profile

• Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
• Previous ecological survey experience gained through university or consultancy work.
• Strong written communication and report‑writing abilities.
• Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.
• Residence in or near Colchester and willingness to travel.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
