Assistant Street Lighting Designer / Street Lighting Engineer

About the role

The Assistant Street Lighting Designer / Street Lighting Engineer will join Mott MacDonald’s transport solutions team, providing technical support for exterior lighting projects across the UK. Working under the Technical Principal for Street Lighting, you will help deliver high‑quality lighting and electrical designs for motorways, roads, public realms and decorative features, while collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare reports, feasibility studies, designs, drawings, specifications and contract documents.
• Design lighting schemes in line with relevant standards and codes of practice.
• Carry out site surveys and inspections to inform design decisions.
• Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and tender documentation.
• Participate in client meetings, briefings and project progress reviews.
• Liaise with engineers and technicians from other disciplines to ensure integrated solutions.

• Clear communication skills and ability to build technical credibility with clients.
• Strong teamwork orientation and willingness to work in a partnering environment.
• Flexibility to travel to sites and occasional overnight stays when required.
