Assistant Teacher – Year 1 (Full‑time, Fixed‑term)

About the role

Brighton College Prep School is looking for an Assistant Teacher to join the Year 1 team on a full‑time, fixed‑term basis until January 2027 (with possible extension). The role is fully integrated into school life and requires a Level 3 qualification or higher.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with class teachers on termly and weekly planning.
• Set up and maintain learning environments, including outdoor areas.
• Apply knowledge of the EYFS framework to support pupil progress.
• Plan, deliver, and assess interventions for individual pupils.
• Assist specialist teachers with curriculum delivery and school events.
• Share pastoral care responsibilities and foster positive relationships.
• Liaise with Learning Support Leadership.
• Support the teaching team with organisational duties.
• Observe pupils, record comments and assessments in Tapestry.
• Promote the school to prospective parents and act as an ambassador at events.
• Attend INSET days and pursue continuous professional development.
• Model appropriate speech, dress, behaviour, and equipment care.
• Run a weekly after‑school club of your choice and support other after‑school activities.
• Assist with the holiday club for one week each school holiday.

Required profile

• Level 3 qualification or above.
• Strong commitment to the education and wellbeing of young children.
• Sound knowledge of relevant teaching curricula and recent changes.
• Positive, caring attitude toward children and colleagues.
• Patience, tolerance, energy, and enthusiasm in a busy environment.
• Creative, ‘can‑do’ mindset.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
• Experience using Tapestry online learning journal for assessments.
