Assistant Transport Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Transport Manager to support the day‑to‑day operations of a busy transport business. You will help ensure vehicles are road‑worthy, drivers comply with regulations, and loads are delivered safely and on time.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor vehicle loading, overload prevention and secure strapping of loads.
• Maintain compliance with the Operator’s Licence and driver hours regulations.
• Oversee scheduled servicing and maintenance of vehicles and trailers.
• Achieve daily sales targets per truck and optimise outbound and back‑load planning.
• Plan routes up to three days ahead and manage driver times.
• Use the Samsara tracking system to monitor fleet performance.
• Maintain accurate records in the TOPS system, traffic boards and AssetGo.
• Develop and nurture customer relationships and source loads directly where possible.
• Provide proactive support and communication to other departments.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a transport leadership role.
• General haulage experience and at least one year of transport planning.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently and prioritise tasks efficiently.
• Strong communication skills with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
