Associate Head of Built Environment

About the role

The University of York St John is launching a new Built Environment portfolio and seeks an Associate Head to lead its development from inception to delivery. This senior academic position will shape curriculum, forge industry partnerships, and build a high‑performing teaching and research team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Built Environment portfolio strategy in line with the university’s social impact goals.
• Lead engagement with employers, professional bodies, and external partners to ensure a professionally aligned curriculum.
• Recruit, manage and support a team of academics and industry practitioners.
• Collaborate with the School Academic Leadership Team on staffing, space utilisation, resource planning and internationalisation.
• Deliver research and teaching in at least one programme area.
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture and promote the programme within the university and wider sector.

Required profile

• Proven senior academic leadership experience, preferably in Built Environment or related disciplines.
• Strong record of research and teaching excellence.
• Demonstrated ability to build and manage external partnerships.
• Experience in curriculum design and programme development.
