Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant (SEN)

About the role

We are seeking a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to work within a mainstream primary classroom in Plymouth. You will provide focused, adaptable support to two pupils – one with fluctuating engagement and another undergoing the EHCP process – ensuring they can access learning while maintaining a positive atmosphere for the whole class.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one and small‑group assistance within the classroom.
• Engage pupils who may disengage or refuse tasks, using calm or enthusiastic communication as needed.
• Support transitions between activities, employing visual timetables and other aids.
• Help pupils regulate behaviour and stay engaged in learning.
• Adapt quickly to completed tasks and provide support to the wider class when required.
• Promote an inclusive and positive learning environment.

Required profile

• Proven experience supporting children with behavioural or additional needs.
• Strong behaviour management skills.
• Calm, patient, highly resilient and able to work in an unpredictable environment.
• Confidence working both one‑to‑one and across a classroom.
