Biomedical Scientist – Diagnostic Microbiology (Band 5)

About the role

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking enthusiastic, HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientists (Band 5) to join its busy diagnostic microbiology laboratory. The role involves working across multiple sites, using state‑of‑the‑art equipment to support patient diagnosis and treatment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic microbiology examinations on a variety of clinical specimens (blood, CSF, urine, faeces, sputum, tissues, secretions).
• Interpret results from culture plates and advanced analysers, entering data into the Laboratory Information Management System.
• Participate in a full‑shift rota covering early, late, weekend and on‑call duties.
• Collaborate with the laboratory team to maintain UKAS accreditation and HCPC training standards.
• Occasionally work at partner sites such as Wexham Park to meet service and training requirements.

Required profile

• HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientist with experience in bacteriology.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and on‑call periods.
• Commitment to continuous learning and adopting new laboratory technologies.

Required skills

• Kiestra automated laboratory system.
• MALDI‑TOF mass spectrometry.
• PCR techniques.
• Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) usage.
