Category Buyer – Procurement (Hybrid)

About the role

The Category Buyer will support the development and execution of category strategies, helping to improve supply chain performance, reduce risk and deliver cost savings. Working in a hybrid model, you will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to optimise product ranges, launches and market offers.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to category or product‑group strategy to create competitive advantage.
• Analyse market dynamics, cost drivers and innovation trends to inform purchasing decisions.
• Produce accurate reports by gathering data from multiple sources and presenting it in standard formats.
• Manage stakeholder relationships, following established procedures and supporting senior colleagues with market intelligence.
• Identify opportunities to secure new business, retain existing customers and resolve complex queries.

Required profile

• Proven experience in an Assistant Buyer, Junior Buyer or Procurement Assistant role, preferably within the public or NHS sectors.
• Ability to work independently, analyse data trends and make recommendations without supervision.
• Strong verbal communication skills for interacting with internal teams and external partners.
• Experience negotiating with suppliers and stakeholders.

What we offer

• 12‑month fixed‑term contract with a starting salary of £37,502, rising to £41,669 over three years.
• Hybrid working – one day per week in any of our offices (Nottingham, Alfreton, Sheffield, Wakefield, Daresbury or London).
