Category Controller

About the role

Bestway Group is seeking an experienced Category Controller to lead its category team. You will be responsible for maintaining strong supplier relationships, shaping category strategy and driving competitive advantage across the marketplace.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver excellent customer service through curated ranges, price integrity, quality assurance and NPS analysis.
• Own P&L, manage budgets and achieve financial targets through effective sales strategies.
• Lead, develop and motivate a team of Category Managers and Assistants.
• Leverage market position to negotiate with suppliers and improve performance.
• Ensure operational excellence via supply‑chain oversight, waste control and compliance with food‑safety standards.
• Collaborate with Finance to provide commercial insights that maximise margin and profitability.

Required profile

• Proven track record leading a trading team in a complex, multi‑functional environment.
• Significant senior experience in commercial, buying or trading within food retail or FMCG.
• Strong negotiation skills with a focus on cost and margin.
• Ability to interpret data to inform decisions.
• Experience managing and developing teams.
• Deep understanding of merchandising, profitability and supply‑chain management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
