Child Care Solicitor – Public Law Specialist

About the role

The Legists are seeking an experienced Child Care Solicitor to join their growing family childcare department in Devon. You will manage a caseload of public‑law children matters, providing expert advice and representation to parents, grandparents and other family members throughout care proceedings.

Key responsibilities

• Manage your own caseload of public‑law children matters, from initial advice to final court outcomes.
• Represent family members in all stages of care and special guardianship proceedings.
• Provide calm, clear guidance to vulnerable clients during emotionally charged situations.
• Undertake advocacy on behalf of clients in court.
• Develop and maintain a network of internal and external contacts relevant to family law.

Required profile

• 2+ years post‑qualification experience (PQE) in public‑law family matters.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast‑paced, sensitive environment.
• Commitment to making a positive difference in clients’ lives.
• Calm, clear and supportive communication style.
• Understanding of legal‑aid processes; membership of the Law Society Children’s Panel is a plus.
