Childcare Solicitor – Public Law (Hybrid)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Childcare Solicitor to join a well‑established law firm in Shropshire. The role focuses on public law children matters within the Family Law department, offering hybrid working and genuine career progression.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse caseload of public law childcare matters from instruction to final hearing.
• Represent parents, children and extended family members in care proceedings.
• Advise clients throughout Public Law Outline (PLO) pre‑proceedings processes.
• Handle applications for Care Orders, Supervision Orders, Emergency Protection Orders and related matters.
• Conduct advocacy in Family Court where appropriate.
• Provide clear, practical and empathetic legal advice in sensitive situations.
• Maintain compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements, Lexcel standards and firm procedures.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, local authorities and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor or CILEX Fellow with a current practising certificate in England & Wales.
• Minimum 2 years post‑qualification experience handling public law childcare cases.
• Strong knowledge of care proceedings and public law children work.
• Excellent advocacy skills with confidence appearing before the Family Court.
• Compassionate and professional approach to vulnerable clients.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a busy caseload independently.
• Experience working within Legal Aid frameworks and billing systems.
• Law Society Children Panel Accreditation is advantageous (support and funding available).
