Children's Social Worker – Fostering Duty

About the role

Our client, Devon County Council, is seeking an experienced Children’s Social Worker to join the Fostering Duty team. You will work directly with children, young people and families to safeguard their wellbeing and promote positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Safeguard children, young people and adults at risk, applying a strengths‑based, inclusive, anti‑discriminatory approach.
• Gather, analyse and evaluate information from service users, informal networks and partner agencies to produce holistic assessments.
• Develop outcome‑focused plans that balance risk and protective factors, and maintain accurate case records.
• Manage a complex caseload, prioritising tasks to meet national and local performance expectations.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary teams and partner agencies.
• Coordinate and chair multi‑disciplinary meetings, especially where legal proceedings may arise.
• Share information securely with relevant agencies to promote welfare and safety.
• Apply legal and policy frameworks, using professional judgement where appropriate.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in safeguarding children and young people.
• Commitment to a strengths‑based, anti‑oppressive practice.
• Ability to conduct holistic assessments and develop risk‑informed plans.
• Proven capability to manage a complex, high‑volume caseload.
• Strong collaborative skills with external partners and multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of relevant legal, policy and statutory guidance.
