Claims Handler - Property Claims (Hybrid)

About the role

Markel is looking for a Claims Handler to join its Prompt Resolution Team (PRT) in Leeds. The role is not a call centre: you manage your own portfolio of claims, take ownership of decisions and build relationships with brokers, customers and third parties. You will gain exposure to a wide variety of claims, with a particular focus on property claims, while also developing experience across liability and injury matters. The PRT is described as an entry point into the wider Markel Claims function.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of claims from first notification through to resolution, taking ownership of customer outcomes
• Handle low-value property damage claims, including escape of water, storm damage, fire damage, theft, accidental damage, property and equipment losses, and domestic and commercial property matters
• Handle Employers' Liability and Public Liability claims
• Review claims information and policy coverage
• Liaise with customers, brokers, loss adjusters and third parties
• Make proactive outbound calls to progress claims efficiently
• Prioritise and manage your own workload, working to agreed service standards and response times

Required profile

• Experience handling property claims, household claims, personal lines property claims, domestic or commercial property claims, first-party property claims, or liability claims (EL/PL)
• Experience in insurance claims handling, legal expenses claims or claims-focused paralegal roles is welcomed
• Excellent communication skills and confidence speaking with customers and brokers
• Strong organisation and time management, ability to work independently and a proactive approach to problem solving
• A genuine desire to build a long-term career in insurance claims
