About the role
The NHS Ayrshire and Arran is offering 16 Clinical Development Fellow posts across University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse, starting 5 August 2025. The role is designed for doctors who have completed FY2 or an equivalent internal medicine training programme and wish to gain further experience before entering Higher Specialist Training.
Key responsibilities
- Manage acutely unwell medical patients in acute and emergency settings.
- Develop and maintain procedural skills, including venepuncture, arterial line insertion and other bedside techniques.
- Work within the Medical HDU and be seconded to critical care when required.
- Participate in departmental audit, quality‑improvement projects and research activities.
- Prepare for MRCP/PACES examinations with support from the medical team.
Required profile
- Successful completion of Foundation Year 2 training by August 2025, or equivalent UK Internal Medicine/Core Medical Training.
- Eligibility to apply for Higher Specialist Training.
- Motivation to progress to IMT1 level and build a competitive CV.
- Commitment to delivering high‑quality patient care in a hospital environment.
Required skills
- Clinical assessment of acutely unwell patients.
- Procedural skills (e.g., venepuncture, arterial line insertion).
- Audit and research methodology.
- Familiarity with critical care and HDU environments.
