Clinical Lead Optometrist – Clinical Leadership Role

About the role

The Clinical Lead Optometrist will split their week between hands‑on patient testing and providing clinical leadership across a growing independent optical group in Newcastle and the North East. This senior position combines direct optometry work with governance, NHS compliance, mentoring and support for multiple practice teams.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver two days of optometric testing per week in practice.
• Provide clinical leadership for three days, overseeing governance and NHS compliance across all sites.
• Mentor and support optometrists, delivering training, CPD and professional development.
• Manage clinical audits, investigations of complaints and governance concerns.
• Support the implementation of new technology and equipment.
• Collaborate with practice managers and senior leadership to balance commercial awareness with high clinical standards.

Required profile

• Qualified and GOC‑registered Optometrist.
• Strong clinical knowledge with a clear understanding of governance and NHS pathways.
• Experience in supporting, mentoring or leading other optometrists (beneficial).
• Excellent communication, organisational and leadership abilities.
• Passion for colleague development and maintaining clinical excellence.

What we offer
