Command & Control Sub‑System Engineering Lead – Bristol

About the role

This role offers the chance to join a high‑profile project that is maturing the design of a key subsystem for the Royal Navy’s first operational Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW). You will work on system design, software and algorithms, with strong visibility across the weapon system development.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day management, direction and technical leadership of the Common Architecture Team (CAT), including activity tracking and project reporting.
• Lead the capture, derivation and refinement of subsystem requirements for the Command & Control subsystem.
• Collaborate with the CAT to deliver the functional architecture of the Command & Control subsystem.
• Identify, capture and mitigate functional risks, opportunities, issues and assumptions.

Required profile

• Product development and systems‑thinking mindset with strong stakeholder management.
• Experience across the systems engineering/product development lifecycle and successful project delivery.
• Proactive, self‑managing and able to work under pressure on demanding timescales.
• Practical knowledge of system engineering processes and tools such as IBM Rhapsody, IBM DOORS and IBM Engineering Workflow Management.
• Experience designing complex systems in a defence or highly regulated environment and leading cross‑functional engineering teams.
• Must hold or be eligible for SC security clearance.
