Commercial Business Specialist – CAPEX (Fixed‑Term)

About the role

SNG (Sovereign Network Group) is seeking a Commercial Business Specialist to lead CAPEX activities on a fixed‑term basis until April 2028. You will act as the subject‑matter expert for capital investment, ensuring projects are well‑planned, accurately recorded and compliant with regulatory and financial standards.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for all CAPEX‑related queries.
• Support monthly analysis of CAPEX performance, including job costing, unit costs, value‑for‑money and variance analysis.
• Assist in the annual budget and quarterly forecasting process for capital workstreams, collaborating with operational leads.
• Provide detailed commercial insight at month‑end, explaining movements against budget and forecast.
• Conduct benchmarking against other housing associations and external sectors to inform strategic decisions and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Understanding of accounting standards for capitalisation of development costs (FRS 102 Section 17).
• Strong analytical ability with experience in financial planning, modelling and risk management.
• Ability to combine financial and non‑financial data to create metrics that drive improvement.
• Strategic thinker with commercial acumen and values‑driven approach.
• Experience in the social housing sector is desirable.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Knowledge of FRS 102 accounting standards.
• Familiarity with finance and repairs systems such as Uniclass, URM or Workday.
