Community Health Protection & Immunisation Nurse

About the role

This full‑time position is based within Hywel Dda University Health Board and focuses on protecting community health through immunisation and outbreak response. The role is primarily community‑based, with the flexibility to support secondary‑care settings when required.

Key responsibilities

• Perform clinical assessments and make informed decisions on treatment schedules and pathways.
• Administer vaccines, prepare doses, and conduct post‑vaccination monitoring.
• Carry out venepuncture, cannulation, and IV/IM treatments.
• Screen patients and support testing for infectious diseases.
• Collaborate with multi‑agency partners to improve immunisation uptake and manage outbreak scenarios.
• Provide expertise to specialist teams such as blood‑borne virus, school nursing, primary care, public health, occupational health, infection prevention and control, midwifery, and children’s services.
• Respond to outbreaks, conduct testing, and deliver post‑exposure vaccinations.
• Plan, organise, and prioritise workload while adhering to legal, statutory, and board policies, including safeguarding.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse currently employed by Hywel Dda University Health Board.
• Ability to work independently within professional guidelines and refer to supervisory management as needed.
• Commitment to comply with all board policies, legal and statutory guidance.
• Willingness to engage with families, multi‑agency teams, and stakeholders to address complex health needs.
