Compliance Officer – Legal Risk & AML

About the role

As a Compliance Officer you will support a leading UK law firm in managing client onboarding and matter intake. Working within a busy Risk & Compliance team, you will ensure regulatory obligations are met through thorough due‑diligence, risk assessment and conflict management.

Key responsibilities

• Perform client due diligence and anti‑money‑laundering (AML) checks on new and existing clients.
• Review and assess client and matter risk profiles, preparing clear findings and recommendations.
• Conduct conflict‑of‑interest searches using specialist systems and evaluate results.
• Assist in resolving potential conflicts by collaborating with legal teams and senior stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate client records and support ongoing monitoring activities.
• Escalate higher‑risk matters and compliance concerns where appropriate.
• Provide guidance to colleagues on client onboarding and acceptance procedures.
• Contribute to departmental projects, process improvements and compliance initiatives.
• Stay up‑to‑date with regulatory developments and industry best practice.

Required profile

• Degree educated or able to demonstrate relevant experience in a compliance, risk or regulatory environment.
• Previous experience within a law firm is advantageous.
• Understanding of AML regulations, client due diligence and conflicts management.
• Strong analytical and investigative skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Confident communicator able to build relationships across all levels.
• Organised, capable of managing competing priorities and working independently.
