Component Design Engineer

About the role

Rolls‑Royce is seeking a Component Design Engineer to join its Defence Future Programmes team in Bristol. You will work within a multidisciplinary group of over 120 engineers, delivering innovative gas‑turbine sub‑systems and component solutions for next‑generation power and propulsion systems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop design solutions for components and complex assemblies, considering safety, manufacturability and functional robustness.
• Produce design definitions for internal and external manufacturing, project customers and analysis teams using conventional and Model‑Based Definition approaches.
• Create and maintain tool sets, methods, standards and best‑practice guidance for sub‑systems and components.
• Support product safety through XFMEA and risk assessment processes.
• Perform formula‑based calculations and automated workflow analyses for dimensioning, stability, stiffness, balance and weight.
• Manage work priorities within an agile framework and contribute to multidisciplinary planning.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Engineering or a Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience.
• Chartered Engineer registration with the UK Engineering Council or an equivalent international body (preferred).
• Strong understanding of safety‑first principles and quality system compliance.
• Ability to work onsite five days a week and collaborate within a large engineering team.

Required skills

• Model‑Based Definition (MBD) and Model‑Based Environment (MBE) proficiency.
• Experience with XFMEA and risk analysis methodologies.
• Formula‑based calculation and automated workflow analysis for component dimensioning.
