Composites Tooling Engineer

About the role

iCOMAT is seeking a highly skilled Composites Tooling Engineer to join its Manufacturing Engineering team. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining tooling systems that enable the production of defect‑free curved‑fiber composite parts at industrial scale.

Key responsibilities

• Create tooling models from component CAD data to design patterns, moulds, jigs and fixtures that optimise production time, yield and accuracy.
• Analyse CAD models for undercuts and draft angles and resolve potential manufacturing issues.
• Calculate thermal expansion rates and cure points of composite materials to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Design lightweight “pocketed” tooling for airflow or weight reduction while maintaining structural integrity under pressure.
• Produce detailed manufacturing drawings for in‑house tool fabrication.
• Act as the subject‑matter expert on tooling strategy for new product introductions.
• Communicate design concepts and requirements clearly to cross‑functional stakeholders.

Required profile

• Strong technical background in tooling design and manufacture for composite materials.
• Deep understanding of manufacturing principles and composite processing.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with design, production and quality teams.
• Passion for innovation and continuous improvement.

Required skills

• CAD modelling (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA or equivalent).
• Tooling design for moulds, jigs and fixtures.
• Knowledge of composite material properties and cure behavior.
• Thermal expansion and dimensional analysis.
• Creation of manufacturing drawings.
