Contracts Manager – Highways & Civil Engineering

About the role

We are recruiting an experienced Contracts Manager to lead the delivery of multiple highways and civil engineering projects across the North West. This role offers the chance to join a well‑established contractor with a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, public realm and environmental improvement schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee multiple contracts from pre‑construction through to handover, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures and quality standards.
• Manage project programmes, monitor progress against milestones, and maintain strong client relationships through regular meetings.
• Promote the highest health, safety and environmental standards, supporting audits, inspections and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop construction programmes and resource plans, monitor costs and profitability, and work with commercial teams on contractual obligations and value‑engineering opportunities.
• Lead, develop and mentor site‑based teams, support recruitment and performance management, and foster a collaborative working culture.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Contracts Manager within highways or civil engineering.
• Strong knowledge of project delivery, construction methodologies and contract management.
• Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and profitability.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• NVQ Level 7 in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification (preferred).
