Cost Consultant – Engineering & Surveying (Hybrid, Bournemouth)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Cost Consultant to join our team on an 18‑month fixed‑term basis. Working hybrid (two days onsite per week) in Bournemouth, you will provide commercial assurance and financial oversight across a portfolio of high‑profile engineering and surveying projects.

Key responsibilities

• Support Project Managers by delivering independent commercial assurance and challenging project costs.
• Review payment applications and assess NEC4 compensation events, including defined costs, programme impacts, forecasts and risk allowances.
• Provide clear commercial recommendations for negotiations and decision‑making.
• Monitor project and programme financial performance, tracking committed costs, forecasts and budgets.
• Develop and maintain cost reporting frameworks to identify financial risks, trends and opportunities.
• Produce accurate cost forecasts and commercial reports for business cases, funding approvals and governance.
• Translate complex financial data into concise reports for senior stakeholders.
• Promote strong commercial governance and share knowledge to improve team capability.

Required profile

• Proven experience in commercial assurance, quantity surveying, project controls or commercial management.
• Strong knowledge of NEC4 contracts, including payment assessments and compensation events.
• Demonstrated ability to monitor project costs, forecast expenditure and analyse financial performance.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Experience supporting project or programme delivery in complex environments.
