Costs Draftsman – Remote (UK)

About the role

The Costs Draftsman will join the Billing Team to prepare accurate cost claims and ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency (LAA) regulations. Working remotely within UK business hours, the role supports cash‑flow optimisation through diligent billing and cost recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Draft bills using cost management software such as Costmaster.
• Prepare and submit claims for assessment by the LAA or courts.
• Ensure all concluded matters are promptly and correctly costed.
• Maintain accurate records of billing stages and progress.
• Verify attendance notes and supporting evidence for non‑routine claims.
• Adhere to LAA guidelines, Civil Aid cost regulations, and LASPO requirements.
• Liaise with Finance for disbursement reconciliation and with Counsels’ Clerks on fee payments.
• Provide billing query support and cost‑compliance advice to fee earners.

Required profile

• Ability to work remotely during standard UK business hours (9:00 am–5:30 pm, Monday–Friday).
• Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
• Willingness to attend occasional in‑person meetings for training and team building.
