Costs Negotiator – Legacy, Abuse, Military & Corporate Risks

About the role

Keoghs LLP is seeking an experienced Costs Negotiator to join its growing Legacy, Abuse, Military & Corporate Risks team in Liverpool. You will manage a full caseload from initial instruction through to settlement, handling costs across a range of insurance claims.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of a caseload, progressing files from receipt of papers to resolution of costs.
• Develop initial cost strategies and settlement parameters for each case.
• Prepare points of dispute, consider replies, and document strengths and weaknesses of both parties.
• Negotiate settlements via telephone and written correspondence, adhering to client SLAs.
• Update clients on progress, conduct periodic file reviews, and settle costs within agreed parameters.
• Instruct counsel, attend conferences, detailed assessment hearings, and mediations both remotely and in person.
• Represent the firm in court applications, detailed assessment hearings, and mediations.
• Deliver performance targets, meet Keoghs quality standards, and comply with SRA regulations.
• Delegate tasks to a Paralegal and support their professional development.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 months experience as a Costs Negotiator handling your own caseload.
• Degree and/or LPC and/or ALCD qualification.
• Experience of client liaison, taking instructions and providing advice.
• Familiarity with the Detailed Assessment process, including preparing Points of Dispute.
• Strong telephone negotiation abilities and solid understanding of cost case law and insurance litigation.
• Ability to work independently, plan workloads, and remain calm under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficient IT skills in the Microsoft Office package.
