Counsel – Public Sector Operations (Beijing)

About the role

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is seeking a Counsel to join its Public Sector Operations team in Beijing. Reporting to the Chief Counsel, you will provide legal and policy advice on sovereign and sovereign‑guaranteed financing, ensuring compliance with AIIB’s mandate and standards.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on public‑sector investment transactions, aligning with AIIB’s social, environmental and policy requirements.
• Lead or support negotiations of legal agreements related to sovereign loans and guarantees.
• Draft legal opinions, briefs, reports, memoranda, contracts and other documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide legal support from project preparation through implementation and monitoring.
• Coordinate with other multilateral development banks and development partners to advance AIIB’s investment operations.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of post‑qualification legal practice, preferably in a top‑tier international law firm or international financial organization.
• LLM, JD or equivalent qualification; admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
• Experience with sovereign loans, guarantees, PPP projects or similar financing structures.
• Strong ability to work independently and communicate legal solutions to senior stakeholders.
• Fluent English with excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
