Court of Protection (Health & Welfare) Solicitor

About the role

The Court of Protection (Health & Welfare) Solicitor will join Duncan Lewis Solicitors' nationally recognised Court of Protection team. Working across London, Manchester and Birmingham, you will represent vulnerable adults and young people in complex health and welfare matters, ensuring their best interests are protected.

Key responsibilities

• Report to the Department Director and manage a caseload of capacity, deprivation of liberty, section 16 and section 21A matters.
• Handle multi‑party welfare disputes, cross‑jurisdictional issues and high‑value personal injury proceedings.
• Collaborate with colleagues in property & affairs, community care, clinical negligence, family and public law to provide holistic representation.
• Act on instructions from the Official Solicitor and support clients, families and professional advocates through sensitive cases.
• Maintain rigorous legal analysis while keeping a strong human perspective.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with experience in Court of Protection health and welfare work.
• Demonstrated ability to manage emotionally charged and complex cases.
• Strong client‑focused approach and excellent communication skills.
• Willingness to work in a hybrid environment and collaborate across multiple practice areas.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Court of Protection law, including deprivation of liberty and sections 16/21A.
• Experience handling multi‑party welfare disputes and public law issues.
• Ability to interpret and apply legal principles to vulnerable individuals.
