Criminal Defence Solicitor – Associate/Senior Associate (3+ PQE)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Criminal Defence Solicitor to join a nationally recognised team in Bristol. The role offers exposure to high‑profile regulatory investigations, criminal prosecutions and inquests across a diverse client base, including insurers, corporations and individuals.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload covering Health & Safety Executive prosecutions, Environment Agency and local authority investigations, motor offence prosecutions and fatal accident cases.
• Advise and represent clients in matters involving care providers, the CQC and directors facing criminal or regulatory proceedings.
• Take responsibility for matters from initial instruction through to resolution, including drafting pleadings, preparing evidence and appearing in court.
• Contribute to business development activities, client training sessions and promote the team’s profile.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with a minimum of three years’ post‑qualification experience (PQE) in criminal defence and regulatory work.
• Demonstrated experience defending Health & Safety Executive prosecutions.
• Strong advocacy, drafting and client management abilities.
• Commercially aware, technically proficient and able to handle complex matters confidently.
• Collaborative approach with excellent organisational skills.
