About the role
The Public Prosecution Service (PPS) is seeking a qualified legal professional to join its team in Pictou as a Crown Attorney on a term basis. This role offers the chance to contribute directly to the administration of justice and public safety in Nova Scotia.
Key responsibilities
- Represent the Crown in criminal and quasi‑criminal matters at all court levels.
- Prepare and present cases, including handling appeals.
- Provide legal advice and assistance to law‑enforcement agencies.
- Participate in the development and review of criminal law and prosecution policy.
- Maintain accurate case files and manage docket schedules.
Required profile
- Law degree from an accredited institution and call to the bar in Nova Scotia.
- Demonstrated experience in criminal law practice.
- Strong commitment to fairness, professionalism, and ethical standards.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) principles.
Required skills
- Legal research and analysis.
- Courtroom advocacy and oral argument.
- Drafting legal documents, motions, and briefs.
