Data API Engineer

About the role

FanDuel Group, a subsidiary of Flutter Entertainment, is looking for a Data API Engineer (software engineer interested in data applications) to join its growing team in Edinburgh. You will help build applications with REST API endpoints that provide recommendations based on data pipelines, machine learning models and infrastructure that power analytics and customer insights. The role contributes to the design, development and maintenance of reliable fraud recommendation applications.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines.
• Design, build and maintain scalable Python Flask API applications or similar languages with low-latency responses.
• Develop batch and stream data ingestion applications using SQL databases such as PostgreSQL or NoSQL/Redis databases.
• Implement REST API endpoints on a Kubernetes cluster using an API gateway such as Kong.
• Ensure API responses are reliable, accurate and delivered on time.
• Write clean, documented code and test cases with Python, SQL and PySpark (optional).
• Understand containerization and Kubernetes deployment using ArgoCD.
• Work with senior engineers in code reviews, design discussions and planning, and with data analysts, data scientists and product managers to turn business needs into data solutions.
• Take part in code reviews, sprint planning and retrospectives in an agile team.
• Monitor applications, troubleshoot issues, implement data quality checks and document data sources, transformations and architecture decisions.

• A strong technical contributor who enjoys building software and data applications at scale.
• Experience developing batch and stream data ingestion applications.
• Ability to solve practical problems and learn continuously in a fast-paced environment.
