About the role
The British Transport Police is seeking an experienced Data Architect to design and maintain secure, scalable data architectures that support operational policing and strategic decision‑making. This 12‑month fixed‑term position will play a key role in a data transformation project, delivering an integrated analytics layer in Azure. The role works closely with the Chief Data Officer, analysts, operational teams and technology colleagues.
Key responsibilities
- Design end‑to‑end data architectures integrating Microsoft 365 tools (SharePoint, Power BI, Power Automate, Teams) with legacy systems and cloud platforms such as Azure and Google Cloud.
- Define and enforce data architecture standards, including data models, metadata, storage, sharing and publishing approaches.
- Provide expert advice, assurance and governance to ensure solutions are secure by design and comply with GDPR and law‑enforcement data handling standards.
- Collaborate with operational units, analysts, digital teams and third‑party suppliers to translate business requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions.
- Support innovation through automation, AI and advanced analytics where appropriate.
Required profile
- Degree‑level education in IT, data or engineering (or equivalent professional experience).
- TOGAF 9 Foundation certification.
- Extensive experience leading complex data architecture initiatives across multi‑cloud environments.
- Proven ability to work with cross‑functional teams in a public‑sector or policing context.
Required skills
- Microsoft 365 suite – SharePoint, Power BI, Power Automate, Teams.
- Microsoft Azure.
- Google Cloud Platform.
- Data modelling, metadata management and data governance.
- TOGAF 9 Foundation.
What we offer
- Annual salary of £61,337.60 plus a £4,613.61 London allowance.
