Data Engineer – Snowflake & Kafka (6‑month contract)

About the role

We are seeking a Data Engineer with strong Snowflake and Kafka expertise to join a leading UK banking client on a 6‑month contract. The role will be based in London (with occasional work in Edinburgh) and involves building and optimising data pipelines in a cloud‑native environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines using Snowflake, Airflow and AWS services.
• Integrate streaming data via Kafka producers and consumers.
• Implement ETL/ELT processes, data modelling and performance optimisation.
• Apply CI/CD practices for pipeline deployment and ensure data quality monitoring.
• Lead technical initiatives, conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Proven experience with Snowflake, writing efficient SQL and managing schemas.
• Hands‑on knowledge of Airflow for workflow orchestration.
• Solid background in AWS (S3, Lambda) and Kafka concepts.
• Strong Python programming skills and familiarity with Git.
• Ability to work independently in a cloud‑native, security‑compliant environment.
