Data Governance Lead

About the role

ITV is looking for a Data Governance Lead to drive its data governance strategy covering quality, security and compliance of data assets. The role establishes frameworks and policies to support a strategy of unifying and democratising data across ITV while safeguarding the company against risk. It sits in the central data function, reports directly to the Chief Data and AI Officer and works closely with the leadership team. The position is based in London (White City) on a hybrid basis.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement an enterprise-wide data governance strategy, including data policies and the roles of data owners.
• Manage data ownership, data stewardship, metadata and stakeholder engagement, acting as a bridge between business and technology teams.
• Ensure data quality and integrity by setting metrics, resolving inconsistencies and defining validation processes.
• Ensure compliance with GDPR and other data protection regulations, and develop data policies.
• Work with the data architecture team to understand the data model, define core operational data sets and set the strategy for sourcing and syncing data.
• Drive adoption of governance and quality practices with data owners, stewards and business leaders.
• Implement procedures for data classification, security and lifecycle management.
• Embed governance in technical workflows with data architecture, engineering and platform teams, and promote data stewardship through training.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in data governance, data management and data protection regulation (e.g. GDPR).
• Experience leading large-scale delivery and cloud data programmes of work.
• Experience with data warehousing, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, strategic thinking and leadership qualities in a cross-functional environment.

Required skills

• Understanding of data platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, including Knowledge Catalog (Dataplex)
• SQL, Python or data visualisation tools such as Google Data Studio or Tableau
• Familiarity with AI, GenAI and their ethical implications in data governance is ideal
